We were invited to a preview of this year's RSAF Open House, and with a carrot (a ride on a Chinook) dangled before me, I was quite happy to say yes. (The boys, having been through NS, were a little less excited, proudly informing me that they had ALREADY sat on the aforementioned aircraft in their army days. So I went alone…lor.)

The good people at YourSingapore sent the crew at RediscoverSG some goodwill in the form of tickets to the annual street extravaganza, Chingay Parade Singapore 2011.
So last Wednesday, along with several other camera-toting adventurers, we soaked in the atmosphere of Thaipusam and tried to avoid gawking overly at the colourful myriad of activities (particularly the piercing ones) that took place around the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple. Kavadis and milkpots featured alongside steely looks of determination, rubbing shoulders with awed tourists, supportive family and friends, and interested bystanders. Barefooted, we trooped around the temple and took in the sights and sounds, and soul of the festival. Below are some of my takeaways from the festival.
